Spring Cleaning While Quarantining

By now, you have probably already hit this hard and trying to spend as much time as possible outdoors. But, why not revisit, in case the rain comes and you are ready for another project? Whether you are planning to sell or not, this is something you’ll be glad you accomplished.

All around the country, people are spending more time at home due to the recent coronavirus outbreak and subsequent stay at home orders. This has caused many homeowners to shift their plans for putting their house on the market, resulting in delaying their initial list date. However, this also provides the unique opportunity to cross more things off of that to-do list before officially entering the MLS. Here are some great spring cleaning tips to get your home prepped for sale.

Declutter

Maybe the best thing you can do during this increased time at home is to thoroughly declutter your home. Go through every cabinet in your kitchen and remove any excess items that you don’t use. Pare down the coat closets and minimize your wardrobe. Not only will this help your house show better, but it will also mean you’ll have less to move and unpack in your new home.

Maximize Storage Space

In addition to decluttering, take the time to organize spaces to really show off how much storage your house has. Don’t neglect forgotten spaces like an unfinished basement or the garage. Having these spaces neatly organized will allow buyers to look past your things and envision how they can utilize the space. Ideally, you want every space in your home to be neat and organized.

Deep Clean the Home

With many states only allowing essential businesses to remain in operation, it can make certain tasks around your house trickier. Most homeowners hire cleaners to come in and do a thorough deep cleaning or have their carpets cleaned before getting photos taken. Try to find the silver lining in saving money and getting these tasks accomplished yourself. Thoroughly clean all surfaces including floors, blinds, windows, and baseboards. This deep clean will show as pride in ownership and make buyers feel good about putting an offer on your home.

Apply a Fresh Coat of Paint

The cheapest way to make your house feel fresh and updated is to apply a fresh coat of paint throughout. While this is a time investment, it will really make a big difference in the way your house looks. Fortunately, hardware stores are still open and many are offering curbside pickup. Take advantage of your extra time at home to paint with a fresh neutral color that will look great and make potentials buyers feel calm and cozy in the space.

Freshen Up Your Landscaping

The beautiful spring weather is calling us all outside, yet we are restricted in where we can go. Take the opportunity to relish in its glory by getting some yard work done. On your curbside trip to the hardware store also pick up some fresh blooms and mulch to liven up the landscaping. Rent a power washer and make the driveway, sidewalks and front porch look sparkling clean. Your curb appeal is the first impression you make on buyers, so make sure it’s appealing.

Although these may not be the most ideal conditions to sell your house in, there are little advantages. Take this opportunity to make your house shine as best it can. It will stand out amongst the competition when it comes time to list and will yield higher offers from buyers.
