What We Love About Living Here
The local resident orcas swim up and down the Puget sound, oftentimes swimming up the nearby Mee-Kwa-Mooks park, Pt Alki, along Alki beach, and into Elliot Bay. We also get gray, humpback, and recently a baleen whale. The marine life here is incredible. And the view from the deck is spectacular with sweeping views of the water and the Olympic mountain range. Local Vashon island, Bainbridge island and the Peninsula are all visible from the house. And on clear days, Mt Baker is fully visible, too.
Walking down to Alki takes about 7 minutes. New restaurants have recently popped up next to wonderful established eateries and fun places to pop in for a drink. Harry’s for brunch or Il Nido for a fancy night out are just steps away.
Whale Tale park is just down the hill, and offers places for families with kids to play in the grass, tennis and pickleball courts, and a soft playground made for little ones.
Schmitz Park is magical - and just a block away. Lots of awesome ferns, Douglas fir trees, cedar trees, and wildlife - bald eagles nest annually on top of the tree line, visible from the house. A regular site is seeing a pair of bald eagles nesting or with a hatchling. Visible from the deck without binoculars! Schmitz Park is an amazing place to hike and get lost for an afternoon.
We are a quick 5 minute drive up to the Alaska Junction and 3 mins down from Admiral Junction. Grocery shopping at Met Market or PCC, pet shops such as MudBay, and restaurants like Mioposto, Arthur’s, Raccolto, and Shadowland are just minutes away. We are a quick 15 min drive to downtown Seattle or a fast water taxi ride from Seacrest Dock.
The neighbors are all wonderful. Lots of families and non-families. Friendly neighborhood fur-family walks daily. There’s a nice mix of original or longtime homeowners, as well as new homeowners. Everyone is respectful, kind, and welcoming. The neighborhood block party is coordinated annually by the neighborhood “lead” who keeps the homes and folks informed of the latest and greatest in the area.
